CLIENT:
Gold Fields Australia

LOCATION:
Agnew, Western Australia

BEC SCOPE:
Integration of a Solar, Wind and Gas Power Station into the existing plant high voltage network. BEC Engineering designed a power distribution network to fully integrate the power station and minimise site disruption.

CLIENT OBJECTIVES:
To maintain reliable power supply, increase renewable generation and reduce Carbon footprint.

CHALLENGES:
The high renewables content resulted in very low fault currents and protection system constraints throughout the surface and underground mining plant. The site also operated large primary vent fans and Mill motors requiring long start durations and network stability.

The entire site protection system was updated to provide faster protection clearance, lower arc flash levels and improved reliability.

OUTCOME:
The power station was fully integrated within the site network in August 2019. The site has maintained reliable electrical supply and increased their renewable content.
