Project: Fortescue Metals Group’s Anderson Point Port Ore Handling facility

Client: Fortescue Metals Group (FMG)
Location: Port Hedland, WA

BEC’s Electrical Engineering team has been awarded the contract to design, supply and install the Laser Partially Dumped Ore Car Detection System at FMG’s Anderson Point Port Ore Handling Facility.

The system was designed and developed by BEC. It is used to determine if any residual ore remains in wagons following the dumping process. Ore that remains presents an operational and safety risk due to the increased likelihood of derailment. The system has been installed at 10 port ore handling facilities across the Pilbara region. FMG joins BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto as clients and users of the system which has proven itself to a vital piece of equipment to this sector.
